Honduras

Working with CARE, Honduras and a $15,000 grant from USAID, our partner Dr. Richard Komp taught a Solar Energy Workshop in Honduras from Oct 24-28, 2000 and a Solar Energy Symposium in Tegucigalpa on Oct. 30. Susan Kinne organized the participation by Nicaraguans and Girasoles groups from Nicaragua participated in all phases of the workshop. Per Becky from CARE “Richard has incredible knowledge, energy and social consciousness and helped install the systems in the field.” This was the first event of this kind in Honduras and also included the installation of 5 solar electric systems of 50 watts each in four health centers and in one school in 4 different communities in the Guajiquiro area where there is no electricity. They also demonstrated the use of solar cookers and prepared a solar lunch. NGOs, government and private sector representatives participated and they “were very enthusiastic” per Becky. The government Council on Technology and Science offered to sponsor the Second Solar Symposium next year. More Information about Dr. Komp's Grupo Fenix.
