The Center of Theology and Development

We're working closely with this group. The main organizer, Fr. Marcel, frequently visits us to discuss renewable energy infrastructure for his new training center, appropriate technology workshops, and help with his grant proposals.

Their goals are to use education and sustainable development as empowerment tools to cope with socio-economic poverty. They implement educational programs on drinking water safety, food technology , health care, renewable energy, computer literacy, and micro credit. They also do peace and justice training other useful skills that promote individual growth, independence, responsibility and citizenship.

In addition to teaching classes, faculty and students will identify and coordinate outreach service projects in collaboration with local community leaders, visit with local communities to help the community members in a participatory approach to implement projects, and guide the students as they work with community members to apply the concepts learned in the classroom to these reality-based, local service projects. This approach confronts the vicious circle of poverty at its root rather than just dealing with its symptoms.
