Mirror Dance

Lois McMaster Bujold
Hugo & Locus 1995, Internet Top 100

Brash and exciting adventure set in a fascinating universe. Similar themes but mega-evolution from Bujold's first Hugo winner, Falling Free, that began this (so far) eleven-book series. (Latest Memory)

Mirror Dance still slows with discussions of Vorkosigian family history but biting danger and vivid characterizations more than balance the difference.

The plot centers around a nefarious use of human cloning. Outlaw scientists raise look-alike clones for rich patrons who then have brain transplants when their old bodies start to wear out. This assures their quasi immortality but sacrifices the cloned brains. Mark, himself a Vorkosigian clone, doesn't think this is a good idea and initiates an attempt to save the brain-transplant destined clones.

Daring military ventures, fascinating personalities, complex political intriguea highly entertaining book!
