Homunculus

James P. Blaylock

Not for everyone but a good book for those of us with a taste for the unusual and bizarre. Well-written, rich, and deeply-hued descriptions wrap the strange doings into a thick texture of mystery and wonderment.

I seldom laugh out loud while reading a book and I definitely didn't expect to with this dark fantasy. It depicts and chronicles numerous nasty and revolting characters. Though they're not evil or violent in a horror-novel sense, robbing graves and orchestrating zombies doesn't set up expectations for finding much humor. But it's there in an Alice In Wonderland  kind of style - and possibly more effective because of the surprising appearances.

The plot is complex, intriguing, and intellectual good, creative story.
