To Your Scattered Bodies Go

Philip Jose Farmer

Hugo 1972, Internet Top 100

Sometimes an idea is original enough to carry a book beyond poor writing and characterizations. The intriguing premise and background in "To Your Scattered Bodies Go" transforms fair writing into a good book. It was also a strong enough foundation to spin off five popular sequels. Enough for us to recommend this book but not enough to get us excited about reading the next five installments.

It would be too harsh to say it only relies on the creative setting it also develops interesting plots and people as well as providing a multi-era history lesson with a very personal point of view. (Do you know who discovered Lake Tanganyika and coined the term ESP?)

Light, whimsical, easy reading that goes fast. Not much deep thought or insightful philosophy but intermittant doses of homespun wisdom like, "Know a man's faith, and you knew at least half the man. Know his wife, and you knew the other half."

Parental discression: written in a style many children would enjoy but probably too much sex, drugs, alcohol, and tobacco smoking for most parents.
