This Immortal

Roger Zelazny
Hugo 1966, Internet Top 100

Light-hearted literary romp through a mutated, post nuclear war world. Not without its monsters and adventure but not much plot depth or suspense.

Flights of unbelievable fantasy, allusions to ancient philosophies, cultures and Greek mythologya forerunner to the characters in Lord of Light which is similar but much better.

Some interesting, easy to identify with dialog like "My thinking is usually pretty good, but I always seem to do it after I do my talkingby which time I've generally destroyed all basis for further conversation."

In general though, a very mediocre book. How did it manage to tie with Dune for the Hugo Award? If anyone reading this voted that year or knows what the sf political climate was like, please give us an explanation. Equate This Immortal with Dune ? Strange.
