The Small Tank Aeration system is specifically designed for use in a standard stock tank - approximately 100 to 120 gallons. It uses only 4 watts of electricity which will normally cost about 25 cents per month to operate 24 hours a day. It comes with two tubes, each eight feet long. You may place one tube outlet underneath a water level float to keep it open and the other one near the edge of the tank where you want your livestock to drink. If you have a tank which serves two pastures or lots, you may place one of the tube outlets in each side of the tank so that one unit will serve both sides.
The original product line of OK-WATER, Inc. was aeration equipment designed to keep water available to livestock in freezing weather. Although many other products are on the market to achieve this same goal, ours is the only product which accomplishes this goal without creating heat or submersing an electrical element in the water.
Why are these two distinctions important? Heat: To produce heat requires a large amount of electricity. The average floating heat ring used to de-ice a stock tank requires 1500 watts of electricity. In most locations in the United States, that will cost about $30.00 to $80.00 per month depending on how long the heat ring must operate each day. Compare that to 25 cents per month required to operate our Model B aeration unit and you can see the rapid payoff of this equipment. The larger Deep Draw unit requires only 50 cents per month to operate.
Submersing in water: There is no way that an electrical element continually submersed in water can be guaranteed to never leak electricity into the water. That can result in a lethal shock to the animal drinking the water or to a person who happens to touch the water or the steel tank. Our corporate philosophy prohibits the manufacture and sale of any item that introduces a live electrical element into water.
HOW DOES IT WORK? Our aeration products use a very simple rule of physics: the water at the bottom of a tank or pond is always the warmest water in the winter and the coolest water in the summer. By circulating that water from the bottom to the top, we de-ice the water in the winter and freshen it in the summer. We recommend that our equipment be left in operation year-round.
WILLIT ALWAYS KEEP THE WATER ICE FREE? No. Our de-icing aerators will keep a hole open in the ice in a stock tank until the temperature reaches about zero to ten above. Below that, you will find some ice covering the hole that has frozen but that ice will be thin instead of thick and you will be able to break it open very easily. In a pond, our Deep Draw will keep a large hole open in the ice at temperatures substantially below zero due to the warmer water at the bottom of the pond as compared to the water at the bottom of a steel tank.
WHAT IF I DO NOT HAVE ELECTRICITY AT THE SITE? OK-WATER, Inc. also manufactures a 12 volt model that is sold with and without a solar panel to re-charge the battery. Our 12 volt page has more information about its use.
OPTIONS Our 12 volt system is the perfect solution to ice control in remote locations. It comes with or without the Solar panel to recharge your battery. If you will be using this unit in an environment where you will be at that water source on a regular basis, you may wish to save substantial money by purchasing the 12vdc model (without the panel) and simply swap out a recharged battery every couple of weeks. If the unit will be in a remote location, you should spend the extra money to buy the Solar unit. If you elect to purchase the 12VDC unit and wish to add a solar panel at a later date, you may do so.
